China – an academic and cultural experience

Laura Beattie (second year PhD student) was one of three PhD students from Strathclyde’s Department of Biomedical Engineering to be invited to the Biomedical Engineering Bilateral Symposium at the University of Beihang in Beijing, China. She joined students from Columbia University, New York; Stonybrook University, New York; the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and the University of Beihang, who presented their research work on tissue engineering, musculokeletal biomechanics and biosensors. The presentations allowed for great conversations and exchange of ideas and opened opportunities for future collaborations. And of course, there was sightseeing, kindly led by the student hosts, which gave Laura insight into the life and culture of Beijing. What a great experience!
